Osteoporosis - what we offer

What is it?

Osteoporosis is a bone disorder marked by brittle bones that affects half of all women over the age of 50 and almost 90% of those over the age of 75.

What are the risk factors?

  • Menopause
  • Caucasian or Asian race
  • Smoking
  • Inactivity
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Lack of sun exposure
  • Malnutrition
  • Poor vitamin D or calcium intake
  • Thin body type

What can you do to help prevent it?

  • Weight bearing exercise
  • Intake of vitamin D
  • Intake of calcium
  • Decreasing alcohol consumption
  • Decreasing caffeine consumption


How will you know if you have it?

Dr. Isabelle recommends that women get a bone scan at age 50 to establish a base line. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends bone density testing for: all women over age 65; and all women under the age of 65 who have one or more risk factors for osteoporosis in addition to menopause.
